Simple Homemade Garam Masala

Garam masala is a spice blend used in Indian cuisine, whole spices are toasted in a pan to release their aromatic, then ground into a powder.

Every household version is different and unique, depending on the region and personal preference.

Simple Homemade Garam Masala

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Coriander seeds
  • 2 tbsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp Fennel seeds
  • 3 pieces Star anise
  • 8 pods Cardamon
  • 1 piece 3- inch Cinnamon sticks (broken into pieces)
  • 1 tbsp Cloves
  • 2 Bay leaves

Instructions
 

  • Add all the spices to a medium skillet.
  • Over medium heat dry roast all spices, stirring and tossing frequently, for 4 to 5 minutes or until they begin to smell fragrant
  • Transfer them to a bowl and allow them to cool before grinding in a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder.
  • Store garam masala in an air container.
